Tiemen Ter Hoeven

Founder

Tiemen Ter Hoeven is the founder of Roetz. Tiemen noticed that in his old field of work a lot of material was reused, resulting in products becoming partly circular. This got him thinking about where else this concept could be applied. In the Netherlands, there are one million orphaned bicycles every year that are abandoned and are no longer collected. These bicycles are often destined for scrap, while parts such as the frame and front fork are still in excellent condition. These frames are now the base of Roetz products.

Recycled base

Since its founding in 2011, Roetz has gradually become a familiar face on the streets of Amsterdam. The brand now has both ‘normal’ bicycles and e-bikes, which also have a recycled base. Roetz distinguishes itself by its circular, high-quality and certainly beautiful bicycles, which can also be fully customized in their online configurator.

Roetz Fair Factory

In addition to Roetz’s sustainable mission, the Amsterdam based organization also has a foundation; the Roetz Fair Factory. The bicycles are made by unique makers, who follow a training program at Roetz to become a fully-fledged bicycle maker. These are often people who are at a distance from the labor market and who find it difficult to find work somewhere. With a diploma from Roetz, these people can find a job at a bicycle repair shop or in a factory. Roetz bicycles are good for people and the environment. It goes without saying that Roetz’s slogan is “join our ride to a better world!”.
