About the Maker
Founder Marlies van Heusden is, as she describes herself, an imperfect zero-waster, minimalist and composter. In 2019 she spent time in Latin America and first handed saw the impact of our current (over)consumption behaviour. “Mountains of plastic waste as far as I could see before I could get to the coast. But also people who lived off the grid and were still fully connected to nature. From leaf to root, everything was used. There was no waste deep in the Amazon. And that inspired me. If it can be done there, then it can also be done here, right? Right there and then in the Amazon she decided to contribute to the solution and not the problem.
Production process & Sustainability
The purely natural soap and shampoo bars are handmade in the soap factory in Amsterdam, according to traditional methods. Only 100% natural ingredients such as organic shea butter and calendula are used – ingredients that use the power of nature. Marlies likes to use everything nature has to offer, which is why every soap and shampoo bar contains a circular ingredient. Think rich and creamy body soap made from rescued orange peels. In addition, Nature Bar stays away from mineral oils, microplastics, silicones and palm oil.
