Knits for your inspiration is a design studio for textiles, clothing and accessories, with knitting as a specialty. They make special scarves and hats in relief knitting or with a design inspired by works of art by well-known and lesser-known artists, including Rembrandt and Van Gogh. Cardigans in beautiful materials and special shapes.

About the maker
After graduating from the Minerva Academy in Groningen, Simone van Eerdenburg worked for almost ten years as a knitting designer for various companies, such as Didi and Another Woman. A fun and educational period, but in the end she decided to sell her own designs. Knits for Your Inspiration was set up in 2002, four years after Simone van Eerdenburg started her own business.

Production process & sustainability
Everything is devised and made in our own studio – in the heart of Amsterdam. “An important motivation is to actually make my own products,” says Simone. This not only gives her more room for her own creativity, but also to produce things that others find too complicated or too much of a hassle. ‘I use as few seams as possible and let the knitted fabric shape itself based on the technique. I strive for flowing shapes around the body. This means that it is actually not necessary to cut a knitted fabric. This has become my trademark over the years. But it does take more trial and error, and therefore more time.’

Simone often uses different types of yarn for each product. The yarns mainly come from very good spinners in Italy, but Simone also has a good supplier in the Netherlands. “The supply of organic and socially responsible yarns is closely monitored, but although the industry is very much developing, it is often difficult to find suitable organic yarns. Due to my idiosyncratic technique, I ask quite a bit of yarn; they must be strong, but also soft and pleasant to wear.”
