About the Maker
When founder Cisca Rensen started delving into the craft of soapmaking in 2011, she learned about the beneficial processing of natural oils: “Nowadays, soap and other care products often contain aggressive synthetic cleaners that can dry out the skin. This is a shame, because with the right ingredients, artisanal soap can really do wonders for your skin. Our soaps have a high glycerin content and the interaction of vegetable oils allows moisture to be absorbed by the skin after washing.”
Production process & Sustainability
Every bar of soap is made by hand by Cisca. “We make our vegetable soap from scratch, by mixing different oils, such as olive, coconut, castor, jojoba and rose-hip oil. We add sodium hydroxide to this – this ensures that the oils slowly saponify. The value of this ingredient decreases as the product matures. When the soap has matured for six weeks, this ingredient has virtually ‘evaporated’ and the pH value has also dropped considerably. Before the mixture is poured into the moulds, we add the natural dyes and create our characteristic patterns in the soap. We complete the soaps with rose petals or sea salt, among other things.”
Versatile Soap
The soaps from Zeepziederij aan het IJ are very diverse. You can even order them custom-made – in the shape of a cake, logo or with your company colours. The ideal promotional gift! In addition to soap, they also make other care products such as bodybutter, massage oil and bath salts based on natural ingredients.
